Finance Officer (Part-Time)

Role & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated Finance Officer to cover maternity leave within our Finance team. The successful candidate will bring strong interpersonal skills, a positive, hands-on approach, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a growing business.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead day-to-day finance operations and support the wider business with accurate reporting and financial insight. This is a part-time (24 hours per week), fixed-term role (minimum 15 months) commencing April/May 2026 based at our Edinburgh office (Heriot-Watt Research Park) with the option for hybrid working.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Finance Operations

  • Ensure all internal and external deadlines are met
  • Review and approve invoices, payments, and bank reconciliations
  • Manage payroll and monthly payroll review
  • Oversee financial matters for a small overseas subsidiary
  • Improve and streamline finance processes to reduce risk and errors
  • Develop, maintain, and document finance processes and controls to support consistency, knowledge sharing, and business growth

Reporting & Controls

  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts
  • Produce cash flow reporting and forecasts
  • Liaise with budget holders on project budgets
  • Lead external audit process and manage internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead R&D tax credit preparation with external advisors

Stakeholder & Business Support

  • Act as the main Finance contact across the business
  • Liaise with Group Finance, Group CFO, auditors, and external advisors
  • Assess the financial impact of new processes or business decisions
  • Work closely with the CEO and Director of Operations on business improvements

Required

  • Qualified accountant (or qualified by experience)
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge
  • Experience of external audits
  • Highly organised, adaptable, and detail-focused
  • Confident communicator (written and verbal)
  • Strong Excel skills (Word and PowerPoint also required)

Desirable

  • Manufacturing sector experience
  • International group experience
  • Experience with Odoo and/or Xero
