Eur Ing Dr Carol Marsh, OBE EngD CEng FIET, Head of Digital Systems at Scottish satellite communications firm Celestia UK, is one of five engineers inducted into the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame. Dr Marsh received the honour at The Institution of Engineers in Scotland 112th annual James Watt dinner on Friday 6th October 2023.
Carol was born in Edinburgh and is an alumnus of no less than five Scottish universities: Napier, Heriot Watt, Strathclyde, Glasgow and Edinburgh in the field of electronics engineering, specialising in Field Programmable Gate Arrays. She is now Head of Digital Systems at Celestia UK.
Prior to joining Celestia UK, Carol held an executive role as Interim Head of Electronics Engineering at Leonardo in Edinburgh, overseeing resourcing, training, tools, processes and strategy.
She does valuable pro-bono work as a Vice President and Trustee of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Council member of Institution of Engineers in Scotland (IES), board member of Engineering Scotland, Vice President of the Royal Scottish Society of Arts (RSSA), Advisory board member of the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE), board member of the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and Past President of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES). She was Strathclyde University’s Alumna of the Year in 2022 and was recognised with an Honorary Doctorate from Edinburgh Napier University earlier this year.
She is joined by Sir Nigel Gresley, designer of the Flying Scotsman; Sir Alexander Gibb, who built Rosyth Dockyard, then established the world’s largest civil engineering consultancy; David Kirkaldy, pioneer of material testing; and William Symington, the first to design a vessel powered by steam.
Their induction was announced at the annual IES James Watt dinner, held in Glasgow on the 6th October 2023.
